Check your Angles
Avoid unflattering angles, don't frame your model with their arms or legs chopped off unless it works for the image. If in doubt, fully frame them and do the chopping afterwards in post-processing! Don't forget to check that the tops of their heads and their feet are in focus. Missing feet are disconcerting!
Be the Director
As the Photographer, most people will be looking to you for direction. There's no time to be shy when you're behind the camera! Keep calm to help your model remain relaxed but make sure they're not made to feel awkward if you lack giving instruction. Pose them well, avoid direct bright sunlight and check out your background.
Eye contact...or not
Eye contact isn't always necessary, in fact candid journalistic style photographs often work best. Your subject doesn't have to be looking directly at the camera for it to be a successful shoot, but yo
Lighting in Portrait PhotographyPeople and Portraits week
I'm writing this tutorial of sorts, for all of you portrait photographers out there seeking advice about the lighting in your photographs. First off let me be clear in saying that I am no expert, or rather I do not claim to be, I sometimes do things in unusual ways, and my tips and advice are definitely not the only ones you should follow. This journal is just me giving you my take on how to get great lighting for your shots
1. Never shoot when the sun is at its highest peak.
Depending on where you live and your climate, this might vary, but I usually never shoot between the hours of 12-4 unless I'm shooting indoors, or it's a cloudy day. If you're doing an outdoors shoot and the sun is blasting on your model, you are very unlikely to get good results. Not only will it be uncomfortable for your model, and make it difficult to pose with a natural expression (sun in your eyes, worst feeling in the world),

Eating Disorder AwarenessWelcome to an article about eating disorders, aimed at spreading awareness, advice, knowledge, and support into the community.
What is an eating disorder?
There are many known eating disorders in today's world; anorexia and bulimia are the most notorious ones. An eating disorder has to do with mental, emotional, and physical issues in regards to food and ones own body. There is no perfect description of what an eating disorder is, however, because every individual lives it in a different way. The only important distinction I can make is that an eating disorder in many ways cannot be controlled, it is an illness, and not a choice.
"Eating disorders are serious, potentially life-threatening conditions that affect a person’s emotional and physical health. They are not just a “fad” or a “phase.” People do not just “catch” an eating disorder for a period of time. They are real, complex, and devastating
Behind the Scenes of The Forest of Two TreesEvery year or so Titmouse produces a short film that we distribute to different film festivals around the world. The latest of these films is Otto Tang's "Forest of Two Trees". While this film is a few years old I just found the behind the scenes short (which Otto tells me he shot on a cell phone". Its a interesting look at how the film was made and features many of Titmouse's top artists. Check it out below.

All Here For A ReasonI turned onto a shady, well-manicured driveway that, for all intents and purposes, looked harmless enough. Maple trees lined both sides of the street, and a parade of Canadian geese marched across the road to a wide duck pond with a flamboyant fountain. There were blooming crepe myrtles and rose-of-sharons, and as I grew closer to my destination, neatly trimmed gardens with neatly trimmed bushes.
I stopped to let the geese pass. They looked at me; one hissed. I honked my horn and moved around them.
At the end of the road sat a collection of grayish buildings and a number of signs directing me to the appropriate parking lot. "Welcome to Ten Creeks Hospital," said one of them. "Please enjoy your stay." I parked in the visitor's lot. Surely I wouldn't be staying.
I was shaking when I got out of my car. I had spent the morning getting high. One foot in front of the other, flip-flop noises, hot sidewalk. Mulberry and magnolia trees, freshly shaved grass. A bench and pan for smokers. A set o
